"Professor" Harold Hill is a very charming con man who convinces the conservative people of River City, Iowa, that he can save their children from the evils of playing pool by creating a marching band which learns to play instruments - not by studying music, but by using the revolutionary "Think System!" He also happens to sell those very same instruments and uniforms at a very reasonable price.
