The Western Stage
Theatre Arts Council
Key Message
April 8, 2009
Meet this year's Theatre Arts Council Members
The Western Stage Theatre has gone through a major transition during the past year to fully connect the program to Hartnell College and to better serve the community. As in the past, The Western Stage will continue to offer a full season of plays and musicals, aspiring to a high level of artistic excellence, and the renewed involvement of the college will result in additional support for its student and outreach programs.
The following steps are a part of this transition:
- The Western Stage is completely within the auspices of a newly structured Theatre Arts Department that has been fully embraced by the faculty and staff of the college.
- The college is re-establishing a strong academic program, including the A.A. in Theatre Arts, in order to better serve and retain students.
- Hartnell College has assumed responsibility for business and personnel services for The Western Stage to increase efficiency while maintaining effectiveness and quality.
- The Hartnell College Foundation has become involved in increasing private support and in fostering the development of a strong volunteer component for TWS.
- The Western Stage Auxiliary Corp. was dissolved and the advisory and fundraising functions have been transferred to the newly formed Western Stage Theatre Arts Council, run under the auspices of the Hartnell College Foundation.
- Theatre Outreach programs continue to grow and develop to bring Salinas Valley students and community members to Hartnell College.
- The Western Stage will work to demonstrate a heightened level of response to the diverse needs of the community, especially in response to the demographic majority of our K-12 students, 80% of whom are Americans of Mexican descent. The Director of Western Stage has joined the board of the Alisal Center for the Fine Arts to better develop partnerships towards this response.
We are always looking for strong, committed volunteers and welcome expressions of interest. Please contact Jackie Cruz-Ortega at (831) 755-6810 if you are interested in participating in The Western Stage Theatre Arts Council.
